14/11 vs Causeway Bay. 14:30 KO @ Sandy Bay
Final score: Typhoons T3 10-0 Causeway Bay
A perfect day for rugby, and in a fashion never before seen by the T3s, a keen squad of 'Phoons arrived early at Sandy Bay to kick off the season with a friendly against Causeway Bay.
The 'Phoons started with great attacking intent, but early-season rustiness and changes to the refereeing of the rucks meant the ball often ended up back in CWB hands. However, stout defence and pressure kept the game in the oppostion half. A superb driving maul from just inside the 22 looked like it might go all the way, and although it was stopped short, quick ball from the back allowed Henry to go over for a try on debut.
The second third continued in much the same vein as the first, with bigs hits coming in from both sides. However scrappy errors and harsh refereeing at the rucks meant neither side was able to put any points on the board. Both scrums did however get a lot of practice!
In the final third, Phoons maintained the pressure and with some big hits (including a bonecruncher from Davide on the CWB 12) they gained the territorial advantage again. Eventually some strong support and great running ended with Mike scoring a try to seal the victory.
All in all, a great turnout and a successful if belated start to the season
