28/11 vs Sandy Bay Raiders, 15:00 KO @ Kings Park
Final Score: 45-7 to Typhoons
For the second and last pre-season friendly, Plan A took to the field at King’s Park against Sandy Bay. With a number of new players in new positions the Phoons were fired up to get another win and keep the momentum rolling into the season opener. The first half saw a plethora of tries as the backline scythed through the opposition, getting the Phoons off to an early lead. The forwards’ consistency at the set pieces allowed for the backs to have plenty of ball, which they certainly made the most of. Sandy Bay adapted to a quick rush defence, putting us under some pressure, though they couldn’t match the Phoons desire for points. Again the second half slowed down and a few more mistakes crept in. But we were much improved during an extended period of defence inside our 22 and managed to keep the ref on our side. Hit after the hit kept Sandy Bay out and their only try came from some scrappy open play. Much to be happy with from a very dominant performance!
It was great to again have a number of Plan A virgins taking part, demonstrating as always our Typhoons ‘One Club’ mentality (and the importance of attending training).
Shoutout to comeback kid George Calligs for a delicious set of runs and for trying to break an opponent’s elbow with his face.
